The Help

 The Help

The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, is a story about three women in 1962 Jackson, Mississippi. Adapted into a movie that came  out this August, the book is about three women, from very different places, who come together to write a book about what it's really like to work as a black maid in a white home. This excellent book "teaches" history in a way that no history book every could. - Ellyn

Saving Fish From Drowning

Saving Fish From Drowning Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan is not a typical Amy Tan book. Offering a blend of humor and mystery, Saving Fish From Drowning is the story of a recently deceased woman who had planned a trip along the famed Burma road with friends, and watches from afar as her friends deviate from her careful plan. An excellent exploration of Myanmar in a very atypical book. - Sue
